Located on the grounds of Hersheypark, the AACA Fall Meet is the biggest event of its kind, with thousands of vendors hocking their wares.

Unlike most events, it lives up to every bit of the hype.

The main attraction is the vendor spaces, with both mom-and-pop vendors hoping to clean out the garage, to some of the biggest vintage reproduction vendors in the country. Every time I attend, I kick myself for not buying something. I still wish I got it. Also, the roast beef sandwich with horseradish sauce is worth the extra six miles on the treadmill. The entire town of Carlisle is centered around this event, and the many other automotive swaps and shows held at the fairgrounds.

The Fall and Spring events are the biggest, and bring enthusiasts out by the thousands, all looking for great deals on cars and parts. My notable major purchase from Carlisle was a Oldsmobile Cutlass back in aboutwhich I bought for my wife, Lisa.

Still one of the best car purchases I ever made. In January ofthe second Pomona Swap Meet also drew large crowds, which led to once again moving the event to an even larger arena.

No one expected it to outgrow the first two shows, not even George Cross. For the third location, the White Avenue parking lot, was theoretically the perfect place to allow the show to be held without busting at the seams.

After adding a Porsche section to the car show, a sale areas for Hot Rods, Antique Autos, and Corvettes, along with a Toy row for vendors with collector toys, the show grew to five shows a year, and once again outgrew the location. Bythe show was moved to the fairplex parking lot where seven events a year are currently held. George Cross passed away inbut he lived to see his vision grow to include vendor rows equaling 15 miles filled with 2, classic cars and 2, vendor spaces.

This show continues to provide a place where enthusiasts can go seven times a year to celebrate the automobile.

We decided to check out the first event of to get a feel what the new trends for the upcoming year might be. This is your grassroots, home garage-built, run-what-you-brung type of event. This is the ideal place to see what the local builders are working on in their own garages. The spectator gate 17 opens at 5: There were hundreds of cars waiting to get into the parking lot.

The two lanes entering the fairplex expanded to four lanes, then to eight lanes. All filled with cars waiting for the gates to open.

We were at the tail end of the line but it only took ten minutes to get through the mess and into a parking spot. Once the parking fee was paid, the eight lanes squeezed down to four lanes, then to two lanes, then a mad dash across the lot where attendants with directional flashlights point you into an open parking spot.

The exhibitor gate looked a lot more organized and relaxed.
