No car snobs here and everyone is welcome. We are a non profit group raising money for a college scholarship. I want to share this beginner's guide to babywearing, specifically for my fellow Inland Empire mamas. I know, first hand, how challenging it can be to find babywearing resources in our community.
While babywearing has certainly become a little more mainstream in recent years, I often read posts from fellow Inland Empire mamas seeking advice in finding a baby carrier.
I hope this guide may help some of you! Here's my list of important tips and advice to introduce you to babywearing! My first tip is something that any babywearing enthusiast will tell you: Babywearing is not the same experience for everyone.
Not all baby carriers are the same, and truthfully it really just comes down to personal preference. What works for me may not work for you. Baby carriers are like jeans - it takes time to find your perfect pair, right? The same idea applies to baby carriers, so expect to try on a few before you find the perfect fit. La Leche League meetings aren't just for breastfeeders, you can find babywearing info there too! I think there is a common misconception that LLL meetings are only for nursing mothers.
I'm here to tell you, that LLL can be an amazing resource for new moms interested in attachment parenting. You'll typically encounter a bunch of different moms at meetings from super crunchy granola moms, to sometimes-crunchy moms, to veteran moms who attend meetings in order to give some pro-mama advice. You'll walk out of a LLL meeting with so much more than just breastfeeding and babywearing support; you'll likely make a new friend or two as well.
The best part is the meetings are usually super informal. You can totally come as you are, and bring your kids, too!

After a few weeks of browsing around on the SCBW group, you'll become an instant pro on the lingo used within the babywearing community. There is even a sub-group for off topic discussion, so your parenting support doesn't stop at babywearing.
Inland Empire moms can find local meetings posted in the BabywearingIE group. You can find babywearing education online and in person through these groups.

You can even utilize the free local lending library to check-out and try on multiple carriers before you buy one. This amazing community wants you to be successful, so they're here to help you. You don't have to leave the IE to find help at a baby boutique. Baby boutiques can actually be a great place to try on baby carriers. When I first began babywearing, I noticed that there were awesome stores like Granola Babies in Santa Ana and PaxBaby in Murrieta where they were providing great babywearing resources Finally, I discovered a hidden gem for us IE mamas: Kissui doesn't just provide cute baby fashion and unique kid's items, they have a great selection of baby carriers.
The best part is the staff at Kissui is knowledgable, friendly. You and your baby can try on carriers and walk out of the store feeling confident in your perfect fit! They even host babywearing workshops. You can find information on Kissui's upcoming events here. Baby carriers don't have to be expensive! When I first joined the baby wearing communities I mentioned above, I was a little overwhelmed by the prices of some of the carriers I came across.
With gorgeous prints, and limited edition styles made by special brands, babywearing can be a pretty pricey addiction if you fall deep into this new world When my husband and I were on a tight budget I was the queen of finding baby carriers on the babywearing swap pages.
Any veteran babywearer will tell you that in the carrying world, used is a good thing.
Buying a used carrier or wrap means that it will be extra soft and broken in. You definitely want that when you're going to be carrying a squishy baby in it!
