Thank you for all your hard work and patience last semester! I had heard you were teacher of the year one year and now I know why. I was honestly a bit intimidated by the course, but with your thorough teaching style, I was able to fully grasp everything you taught. Moreover, I appreciated how you focused on what is relevant and actually important. So thank you for being a fabulous professor—one who I will always think highly of!

It was a pleasure being in your class and getting to know you. Thank you for your advice and kindness. You empowered me to make a difference in my life and the lives of people looking up to me. Thanks for a great semester!

I loved the books we read and the class meetings were always eye-opening. There was never a dull moment and you kept us on our toes. You challenged me to reach higher and further than I thought I could, while at the same time offering grace, kindness and compassion when my life was turned upside down.

It is clear that you want us to learn and apply the knowledge we gain in your class. Then, you took me under your supervision; you showed me how research is done, and how a researcher should think.

You gave me a fixed spot in your busy schedule and walked with me through every detail. Your passion comes through in your teaching and seems to be a part of what makes you an effective professor.

Your class and enthusiasm for the material made me genuinely excited to come to class. It helped me to find what I truly want to do with my career and where I want to go in the next few years.

Your approach was excellent and made me appreciate research like never before. My dream is to be a professor and when I become one, I want to be like you. But, your insights will help those of us going on to teach to be mindful of the very important work this is in shaping student minds of the future. Thank you for all of your encouragement.

Thank you for teaching me that emotion and logic exist best together. I learned to truly care about diversity and inclusion through your classes, and I hopefully now spread that message in a passionate but thoughtful way. You are gifted at explaining things multiple ways in an inordinately clear fashion to help students grasp concepts and theories.

Thank you for being so encouraging and doing everything you can to keep us motivated and supported throughout our program. Your knowledge and leadership provides us with a priceless model for our own careers. I really enjoyed all of the readings and found they were diverse and inclusive.

I always enjoy having you as a professor and I appreciate how approachable you are. Thank you very much for the course. I enjoyed every minute of your lecture as well as your marvelous sense of humor.

Words are powerless to express my gratitude to you. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for never letting me down.

Your brother lost his job. I'm here to support you. Your friend's pet just died. I'm here for you. Feedback can be very helpful, but we rarely see it that way.

Whether it is an unflattering performance review from your boss or an email from an unhappy customer, the standard reaction is to get defensive. I thought you would do better. Here's what really happened. I am not happy with this experience.

Make Your Life Better by Saying Thank You in These 7 Situations

We made it very clear in our terms and conditions that the product is not designed to work in certain conditions. Please know we are committed to becoming better.

Can you share more details about the issue? Respond to helpful feedback with thanks and use it to become better. Sometimes criticism isn't helpful at all. It's just vindictive and mean. I've written about how to deal with haters previously, but one of the best approaches is to just say thank you and move on. When you thank someone for criticizing you, it immediately neutralizes the power of their statements. This might be a surprise, but not everything was written with you in mind.

I still have a lot to learn. Someone on the internet said something wrong? Win the argument by the way you live your life. This shows up a lot in the gym. Everybody has an opinion about what your technique should look like. I think most people are just trying to be helpful, but hearing someone's opinion about you when you didn't ask for it can be annoying. One time, someone pointed out some flaws in my squat technique in a video I posted online.

I responded by sarcastically asking if he had a video of himself doing it correctly. Somewhere deep in my mind, I assumed that if I reminded him that his technique wasn't perfect, then I would feel better about the fact that mine wasn't perfect either. That's an unnecessary and defensive response. Do you have a video of yourself doing it so I can see it done correctly? Thank people for raising your self-awareness, even if it was unsolicited. When in doubt, just say thank you.
